Our Shared Values in Story and Song We are Unitarian Universalists! What does that mean, exactly? Well, it means different things to different people. We’re a people of Principles and also a people of Values. We are a people of Covenant, and not of Creed. Today we’ll hear stories and songs (including a new one!) that celebrate where Unitarian Universalism has been and where it is going! |

The "Without Whom" Department If you were to write a book, who would you thank in the acknowledgements? Sure, perhaps your editor, your patient spouse, the first writing teacher, the first person who read your work and encouraged you… but what about the barista at your favorite coffee shop? What about your high school science teacher, or your childhood crush, or the first boss you ever had? The number of people who make it possible for us to do anything can be overwhelming. On this day when we thank our volunteers, we’ll reflect with gratitude on all the people that made us possible - as individuals and as a community. |

Deconstructing Our Identities: How to Reconcile the Masks We Wear Each of us goes through life wearing a mask – we put on a façade for the world outside of ourselves while seeing a different version of who we truly are. Living life authentically is not always easy, and it’s not always safe. Yet can we really live life to the fullest while hiding a part of ourselves? In this service, Tesla will discuss how our identities are shaped by societal norms, our cultures, values, and more and how those may conflict with our true understanding of ourselves. They will also explore how we may reconcile our varying identities to present our truest form to the world while recognizing our own reflection. Tesla Taliaferro (he/they) joined UUCYork in 2018, after moving from Colorado Springs, Colorado in 2017 as part of their transition from female to transgender masculine. In July 2022, Tesla came out again as non-binary, gender fluid. He also identifies as queer and polyamorous, meaning that Tesla believes that their life and love is not meant to be shared with just one person, and that he is less concerned about his partners’ genders than he is with who they are. Tesla lives in Harrisburg with his husband, Scott, not far from his boyfriend, Stan, and close to his platonic life partner, Shannon. He leads the Rainbow Rose Center as one of the original co-founders, has previously served as the Chair of the UUCYork Social Justice Committee, and is very engaged with the local gender diverse and LGBTQIA+ community. Tesla loves spending time with their partners, loving on their furry children, and gardening. |

From Joy to Joy: Flower Communion The original flower communion was held in Prague in 1923. It is a beautiful Unitarian ritual celebrating the shared gift of friendship. We recognize that we each have brilliant, beautiful, unique gifts - and that it takes many flowers, many shining gifts, to make a bouquet. We will use old words of blessing and new words of hope to celebrate our treasured friendships, the joys that we receive from being in - and of - community. |
